The Hazelwood East girls and boys Track team is starting off with a great year. This team is killing it with their meets with all the different schools involved; from Florissant and East St. Louis on March 16th to their upcoming meets, Hazelwood East is a hardworking team and they never give up.

“We practice from 2:30 all the way to 5:30 preparing ourselves for our meets.” Said senior Jai’kiarra Lewis. “We can’t eat any hot chips or hot food at all. Also no fast food or soda”.

This Team works day and night to make sure they’re on point with everything before their meets, working out to stay in shape and being healthy.  Some students on the track team are deciding on going to college for this.

Lewis added, “Going to college for track would be good for me. It’s something I love and I would want other students to do.”

Being a team player isn’t always pretty. Being apart of a big team doesn’t mean you always have good talks with each other.

“Sometimes the team has our arguments but later on will get over it”, Said Lewis.

Being a huge team and working together is stressful, but you can work it out by talking together. Most of the people on the track team have been running since they were kids.

“I was in sixth grade when I started running track”, Lewis said. “It was difficult at first, but I kept pushing myself to get where I am now”.

Boys and Girls track will compete in the Suburban Conference on May 2 and May 3.

If Track is something you would want to do at EHS, speak with coaches Martise Scott (girls track), or Darryl Levy (boys track). You won’t regret it.
