Teenagers at Hazelwood East feel they gain more freedom when they’re finally allowed to drive by themselves.
When they obtain their license it allows them to go anywhere they would like at any time they want not having to depend on others.
“For most teenagers driving means freedom and I don’t have to worry about being home alone while everyone’s out having fun,” said Jordan Gilmore senior at Hazelwood East.
When your ability to drive it means having control on wherever you go and whenever you leave, so missing out on a good time would never be a problem.
“I have way more freedom, I don’t have to rely and wait on my parents for nothing, the only thing you would have to worry about is gas and that’s about it,” said Nick Shaw senior at Hazelwood East.
The main reason why teens choose not to drive because of the expenses that come with it. However, if you have a job and spend your money the right way, those expenses shouldn’t be a problem.
“Even though I spend about $120.00 on gas a month, it’s still worth being able to drive because of the positive benefits that come with it. Those benefits include aspects such as visiting family or friends whenever you want and it builds your character, which makes you feel like a young responsible adult,” said Nick Shaw senior at Hazelwood East.

It surprises me how so many students don’t have a driver’s license and don’t seem to care about getting one. When I was in school, you went and tested for your license the day you turned sixteen. It was considered an important right-of-passage in growing up.
